Materialize, a provider of 3D printing software and 3D printing services, has expanded its material portfolio with the highly resilient Ultrasint PA6 MF. The material is a mineral-filled polyamide that is characterized by excellent values for tensile strength, rigidity, thermal properties and chemical resistance.

It is ideal for the production of functional prototypes and pre-series, for example in the automotive industry or in mechanical engineering, which require a material that has similar properties to PA6 in injection molding. Typical applications are functional and structural tests as well as field and system tests.

In the automotive industry in particular, PA6 is already known for use in conventional technologies. According to the press release, Materialize is among the first to offer 3D printed components made from PA6. The introduction was preceded by a pilot program lasting several months with selected customers.

Materialize can use Ultrasint PA6 MF to produce components up to 340 x 340 x 360 millimeters or 200 x 200 x 200 millimeters in size. The standard accuracy is ± 0.3 percent with a lower limit of ± 0.3 millimeters. The minimum wall thickness is 1 millimeter, but a thickness of 2 to 3 millimeters is recommended.

Objects made from the material have a density of 1.44 grams per cubic centimeter. The tensile strength on the X and Y axes is an astonishing 62 megapascals, on the Z axis still 40 megapascals.
