Oukitel WP7 – outdoor smartphone with corona killer module?

Spread the love

Anyone who currently buys an outdoor smartphone can no longer avoid the Chinese manufacturers. Oukitel has often excelled in this segment in the past. With the Oukitel WP7 we are now expecting a new outdoor cell phone with very good features, by the way, we just had the Oukitel WP6 in the test. Also on board is a fast Helio P90 processor, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, a 48 megapixel camera and a huge 8000mAh battery. In addition, the Oukitel WP7 can be expanded with modules, which also include a UVC sterilizer. In the following announcement, we take a look at the new outdoor smartphone.

With dimensions of 174 x 81 x 17mm and a weight of 294g, the Oukitel WP7 is a very large and heavy smartphone. However, Oukitel sensibly used the space to give the smartphone a large 6.53 inch full HD display and appropriate protection. Typical for an outdoor smartphone, the Oukitel WP7 has a robust housing with metal and plastic elements. Bumpers are used at the corners to protect the smartphone from damage in the event of a fall. In addition, the display is extra protected by raising the frame. Falls from a height of up to 1.5 meters should not be a problem according to the manufacturer. The smartphone is also dustproof according to the IP68 standard and protected against permanent immersion and is also advertised with a MIL-STD-810G certification. In addition, the Oukitel WP7 should withstand increased humidity (up to 90%), high pressure (57kPa) and temperatures up to 49 ° C.

The Oukitel WP7 can be expanded with modules. The manufacturer is currently advertising two modules that can be purchased separately for the smartphone. The first module is actually a UVC sterilizer. In the China technology world there is nothing that does not exist. The sterilizer can irradiate surfaces with short-wave, ultraviolet light. According to Oukitel, this means that microorganisms such as viruses and bacteria are 99.9% killed by breaking their DNA. According to Oukitel, the UVC module combats influenza viruses, Candida albicans, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, among others. The press release also explicitly points out the usefulness in the times of Corona. Greetings from hygiene inspector Gadget.

A triple camera is used on the back. The primary sensor is the 48 megapixel Samsung GM1, which generates 12 megapixel pictures via pixel binning. It is definitely good hardware, but Oukitel also has to optimize the software accordingly. But then it gets exciting with the other sensors. This is because an 8 megapixel infrared night vision camera is used, which is supported by an infrared light with a wavelength of 750nm next to the LED flash. According to Oukitel, this should make it possible to take photos in deep darkness, on which objects can be clearly recognized. It is of course exciting whether this concept really works in practice. We will only be able to find this out in the test report of the Oukitel WP7.

The Oukitel WP7 has a RRP of € 400. Shortly after the release, however, the smartphone will be sold at a reduced price for € 270. For this price, the manufacturer also offers the WP7, an outdoor smartphone that has washed itself. The Helio P90 is a powerful processor that is complemented by large memory modules. A 6.5 inch full HD display should also be suitable for pleasant use and there is also the appropriate protection class for the outdoor racer with IP68.
